Petrol Price Reduction Expected Tonight in Pakistan as Federal Minister Gives Major Hint, High-Level Committee Formed

Pakistanis may receive significant relief at fuel stations tonight as reports suggest that the federal government is considering a major reduction in petroleum prices. The development comes after Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik hinted at lower fuel prices due to falling international crude oil rates and improving global market conditions. A high-level committee has also been formed to review and finalize a new pricing mechanism for petroleum products.

According to recent reports, petrol prices could be reduced by around Rs22 per litre, while high-speed diesel may witness an even bigger reduction of up to Rs39 per litre. If approved, the new prices will provide much-needed relief to consumers struggling with inflation and rising transportation costs.

Sources indicate that the final decision will be taken after a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The government is reviewing international oil market trends, exchange rates, and other economic factors before announcing the revised fuel rates.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik recently stated that global crude oil prices are declining due to positive diplomatic developments and easing tensions in the region. He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to ensure that the benefits of lower international oil prices are passed on to the public as quickly as possible.

The minister emphasized that the government wants a transparent fuel pricing system that allows consumers to understand how prices are determined and adjusted.

To improve transparency and efficiency, the government has established a high-level committee tasked with preparing a weekly petroleum pricing formula. The committee will evaluate international oil prices, taxation policies, exchange rate fluctuations, and supply chain costs before recommending future fuel prices.

Officials believe the new mechanism will help ensure that changes in global oil prices are reflected more quickly in domestic fuel rates.

The expected reduction is largely linked to a sharp decline in global crude oil prices. International benchmark oil prices have fallen in recent days, creating room for lower domestic petroleum rates in Pakistan. Government officials are under pressure to pass this relief on to consumers, especially after several months of high fuel costs.

Some reports even suggest that authorities are exploring larger reductions in petroleum prices following directives from the Prime Minister to maximize public relief.

The official announcement is expected tonight following the completion of the government’s petroleum price review process. If approved, the revised prices will come into effect immediately after the notification is issued by the Petroleum Division.

The possibility of a major petrol and diesel price reduction has raised hopes among millions of Pakistanis. With international oil prices falling, a federal minister signaling relief, and a high-level committee working on a new pricing framework, consumers could soon see a noticeable decrease in fuel costs. All eyes are now on the government’s final decision, which is expected later tonight.
