Petrol Prices in Pakistan Jump 64% After 3 Months of US-Iran War
Petrol prices in Pakistan have recorded a massive increase during the last three months following tensions and conflict linked to the US-Iran war in the Middle East.
According to official data from the Ministry of Energy, petrol prices increased from Rs. 253.17 per liter on February 1, 2026, to Rs. 414.78 per liter effective from May 9, 2026.
The latest figures show petrol prices have surged by around 64 percent in just three months, making it one of the sharpest fuel price increases in South Asia.
Diesel prices also witnessed a major hike during the same period. Official notifications show diesel rates increased from Rs. 257.08 per liter to Rs. 414.58 per liter, reflecting a rise of nearly 61 percent.
The biggest increase came in early April when petrol prices jumped from Rs. 321.17 per liter to Rs. 458.41 per liter amid fears of oil supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz.
International oil prices also increased sharply after tensions escalated in the Middle East. Brent crude oil reportedly crossed $110 per barrel during peak market volatility.
However, reports suggest neighboring countries including India and Bangladesh controlled retail fuel price increases more effectively compared to Pakistan.
India reportedly kept petrol and diesel prices mostly stable as state-owned oil companies absorbed losses to protect consumers from major price shocks.
Bangladesh also raised fuel prices only once in April by around 16 percent and decided to keep prices unchanged for May 2026.
The rapid increase in petrol and diesel prices has raised concerns among Pakistani consumers already facing inflation, rising transport costs, and higher electricity bills.
